Ugh, I've been so bad about reviewing!! This chapter was so brilliantly written. I was wondering how he was going to tell Kevin and I love how you devoted a chapter to it. I love the setting of the chap as well! Great job with the internal struggle he had about just coming out and saying it. I can totally see him telling Kevin in that way...just flipping a steak. Lol! And Kevin reacted just like I thought he would. Excellent job :)

That part of the chapter was very vivid in my head, the whole scene of Nick cooking steak while he told Kevin. I'm glad it came together cause I really thought Kevin deserved that moment. Yayyyyyyyyyy!!! So glad it was good news at the hospital, but I hope he makes the right decision with the next stage of treatment. I'm glad he's calling Cary too, I bet she's been worried about him.

I still love Dr. Submarine, ever since you told me about that way back at the beginning, it means me go..."we all live in a yellow submarine..." LMAO.
I love that Howie and Kevin were with him. Just awwwwww. :). Also, the fact he's calling Cary? That's pretty damn adorable. Especially this line...
"Because that’s what Cary did… She made me feel better."

Aw, yay, remission. But obviously it could be temporary. A stem cell transplant sounds like hell, wiping out the immune system could mean death from infection. Maybe it just depends on how aggressive Nick wants to be with this now. That's great of Kevin and Howie to be there for Nick. How sweet of Nick to call Cary first. :) Another great update, Julie.
Author's Response: Thanks, MA! Yeah, you never know; it's so unpredictable. He definitely has a big decision ahead of him. A transplant is riskier, but also might give him a better chance in the long run. The other route is easier, but maybe not as effective. Like you said, it depends on how aggressive he wants to be right now. Glad you liked the update - thanks again!! :)

YAY Nick is in remission! That is so good to hear! And I think it's so sweet that Howie and Kevin went with him. I also love how Nick still calls his doctor "Dr. Submarine" LOL. I don't blame Nick for being overwhelmed with all the medical information and the choices in front of him. I would feel that way too. But I am so excited that he called Cary! LOL I did think of him, though, and I knew Nick needed to tell him before I took the story any further. I really liked this chapter, and I'm glad that Nick finally told Kevin. I thought that the way he went about telling him was perfect, over the steak grilling. Their whole conversation was very realistic and very well done. I also liked the end when Nick was wondering if this would be his last 4th of July. So sad :( Especially when he mentions that after telling people his cancer is stage IV they lose their light of hope. This was one of my favourite chapters of this story so far. I can't wait for the next one!

Like I said in my reply to Mare, this whole chapter came from that image in my head, of Nick telling Kevin while they're grilling steaks, so he has something to kind of distract him while he says it. Such a guy thing to do. I'm glad it came together and seemed realistic. Thanks so much; it's awesome to hear this was one of your favorite chapters so far! I feel like I've neglected the Boys in this story so far; this is the first chapter Kevin's even been in, but even though the others have been in it, they haven't really "been there" because Nick's been basically avoiding them, so it's nice to have some more parts with the guys bonding and stuff now. Even if that's not really the main point of the story, I like those scenes when they come together the right way. Thanks for the feedback!! :)

Still loving this. So glad Kevin is involved now. Sorry I haven't left feedback for a while; my mum passed away just after Christmas, but I'm gradually catching up on what I've missed. Looking forward to the next update.

I know it's surprising to see me reviewing this story because admittedly, this is the only chapter I have read, but when I saw that it was a Kevin and Nick chapter I had to read it. I have missed your beautiful writing Julie, and this chapter just further showcased what a great writer you really are. The way you had Nick tell Kevin about his cancer was so Nick and I loved the subtle things like turning the steak before it was supposed to be turned as a nervous tick. You do such a great job with writing the boys in such a simple, honest way. Excellent chapter! :O)
