Holy crap. Lol I kind of jumped when AJ yelled "brainsss". I think I was just as scared as Nick was. But he and Riley are so cute together, its nice he makes her feel safe. But I think its a bit weird that AJ is still alive and himself. I am a bit confuzzled. Ok so why didn't he turn. I wanna know!!! UPDATE!!

haha God I love AJ in this, he cracks me up!!! And Nick putting a move on Riley? Or so that's what it seemed while in the car lmao but Brian...my God. I'm glad he finally came clean, but that was defiantly heartfelt and I feel for him so much =( But saying that about Jo's dead hubby and Gabby's Dad that was a bit harsh...still an amazing chapter :)

And yeah, there could be a little something happening between Nick and Riley. ;) The Brian scene was intense to write, and I know he came off as harsh, but hopefully that shows what an emotional wreck he is... he's a different man than he was at the beginning of the story. Author's Response: Hehehe glad you liked that line. I thought so too. I wouldn't say the others are say "eager" for him to die...it's just they can't risk all of them getting killed because of him. It's one of those hard choices for the greater good type of thing...in their heads anyway. Thanks!

I'm not sure I've reviewed this story before -- maybe back towards the beginning... but I've caught up now and just wanted to say wow... I'm amazed at how much work and effort you all have put into this. I could very easily see picking this up at the bookstore and reading it. It is so well thought out and so well written and so enjoyable. It reminds me of books like Z for Zachariah, Alas Babylon and The Road -- not that it's at all the same, because each of these stories is different from the other and each is different from yours, but each of them, including Song for the Undead touches on so many of the most basic and insurmountable of human fears and so how overcomes them.
I love and can relate to all of the characters and I can't wait to read more!
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Rachel! We're glad you caught up, and we so appreciate your review! This whole idea came out of a joke, but once we decided to actually write it, we wanted to take it seriously - yes it's a zombie story, and we're having fun with that, but we also wanted to make it truly dramatic, intense, frightening, and as realistic as we could, given the circumstances. We've definitely been inspired by a lot of things, from zombie movies and books to other post-apocalyptic stories. I read Z for Zachariah in high school; it's been awhile, so I don't remember all the details, but I loved the premise of it. I haven't read The Road, but I've been meaning to rent the movie sometime. The Stand by Stephen King is another one that has given us a lot of inspiration. Again, thanks so much for reading and for the great review! :)

Man oh man. The beginning of this chapter is quite relatable. I happen to be like Nick, where I opt to be more of an optimist, where a good friend of mine's a realist. Realism tends to make optimists second guess themselves, but they try to remain as such regardless, optimistic. I mean, if I were in their situation, I think I'd find it hard to believe as well that we were the only lucky ones to have survived and would try to convince myself that there's other survivors out there.
But my gosh, that part with Spunky. Talk about HEART WRENCHING!! That was just absolutely SAD!! As I read it, I reached out to grab my doggy and I just squeezed her in the tightest embrace, never wanting to let her go. And the way you ladies ended that part, with Nick being wrong again and how it cost him more than ever... sooo freaking sad. :( Dogs are truly man's best friend, so to have read the loss of Spunky was quite emotional. :( But, great job writing it. So vivid.
Now... on to the lovely bit between Riley and Nick. Both you ladies know where I stand with romance. Totally not my cup of tea. But, with this budding romance between Nick and Riley... I fucking LOVE IT!! Of course it's not a romantic chapter or anything, but the subtle hint of a blooming relationship has got me appreciating the romance that will perhaps take part in your gals' story. I loved the way Riley had put herself out there, to be there for Nick after he just lost Spunky. The way the scene is written is absolutely beautiful, and I seriously look forward to reading more about their possible "relationship". They are just too cute! :) Great job, yet again ladies, and I seriously look forward to the next update! :)
Author's Response: Nick's definitely the balance for cynical AJ, which is probably needed in the group to keep up hope. Awwww I know! I have two dogs myself (Rose) and I felt so bad killing off Spunky, but well... LOL. Thank you so much Reb. As for the romance, you know how I am too. But, I dunno, the story is not only about zombies (which are epic lol) but how it affects them at what is essentially the end of their world. How it changes them, how they relate, and how they come together. Like with Nick and Riley :). Thank you for the compliments! Ahh, I love these updates, even more so that I've waited a while to read them. ;) So, I'm beginning to realize that it's really interesting how you've guys penned AJ in this story. Not like I haven't noticed it before, but yanno AJ's my favorite so I tend to study how people will write him in their stories. Although he scares me at times in this story, I love how you guys have twisted him up. He's a bona fied badass, lmao.
Moving on though, Brian's meltdown was just... amazing, as weird as that may sound, lol. The raw emotion that was depicted in this chapter truly tugs on your heart strings, and I think it's safe to say that we all can sympathize with Brian; where we've had meltdowns and just feel completely lost at times. Brian is such a torn man and a tortured soul in this story, and I also love how you ladies have penned him as well. Great job ladies, keep up the good work! :)
Author's Response: Thanks Reb! I think what we did is exaggerate certain traits of the boys to mold them into these AU characters. Like, we know AJ's not an atheist, etc. in real life, but it was interesting to have him take that perspective in this situation. And with Brian, we did the opposite and exaggerated his religious side even more, making him a minister, and then had him completely fall away from it. Those two are my favorites because they're so opposite, and yet, they kind of have the same outlook on things at this point LOL. I think we kept Nick and Kevin similar to how they are in most fanfics; Howie is the one we took the most liberties with LOL. We were saying the other day, neither of us ever know quite what to do with Howie in fanfics. Usually he's just sort of "there," so in this story and 00Carter, we had to kinda change his personality to make him more interesting. Back to Brian... thank you so much!! I'm glad it didn't seem too over the top or out of character for him to explode like that... I was worried about it, but it was really fun to write at the same time LOL. I don't get to write Brian meltdowns like that very often LOL. Thanks so much for all your comments; I loved this review! :)
