My heart broke for Nick... there he was trying to be faithful and loyal, he totally doesn't deserve someone like Emily. Can't blame the girl, though, as I do not know the real story of her and Joseph. I'm just glad elena is there for Nick.

It happened a lot during the war. The men were away for so long with no guarantee that they were coming home, so sometimes their girlfriends didn't wait. But it also worked both ways too. My mum has a cousin called Denver who was fathered by an American based in Yorkshire during the war (he was named after the place where the guy was from).
