I haven’t been around here in ages, and I was pleasantly surprised to see your name on the most recent page. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this piece; it was just long enough to convey all the emotion that I always love about your writing. It was a bit strange to read something that focused on Brian and Howie, but I liked the contrast that you highlighted betweeen Nick and Howie’s adult friendship and Nick and Brian’s teenage attachment. I often wonder if Brian regrets the fact that he’s become so distant from Nick; if he’s upset about the fact that he’s sacrificed his friendships for his family. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I’m happy to see that you’ve written something new and that I hope your working away on a new novel!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the review! I never thought I'd write a Brian/Howie story because that seems like such a boring pairing; I love them both individually, but they've just never seemed to have as close of a bond with each other as with other guys. I've always thought that was kind of weird because they are similar in a lot of ways, and that's what led to the idea for this story. Putting their mutual close relationship with Nick at the center just seemed to make sense to bring them together. I'd like to think Brian does miss Nick and that Nick misses Brian, even though I enjoy Nick and Howie's bromance too. Anyway, thanks for reading and taking the time to review! It's great to hear from you! I haven't started a new novel yet, but finishing this gave me the itch. I probably won't have time to start on anything until at least Christmas break unless I get really inspired, but I'm hoping something might happen then. :)

Really enjoyed this, Julie. I liked the way it was split up with Howie finding out, then Brian and then the two of them finding out that Nick was going to be okay. It was interesting and introspective on both their sides to see how their friendships with Nick had changed and switched over the years. I liked how Nick was such a major character in this despite really only appearing at the end, like his presence lingered throughout the story. I also liked how it basically took place over the night and it focused mostly on Howie and Brian since Lauren wasn't able to get there. Not that I don't like Lauren, but I just like the bromance so much more!

Author's Response: Thanks, Steph! I liked the idea of writing a Howie/Brian story that revolved around Nick, but was more about Howie and Brian and their relationships with each other and with Nick. I definitely wanted to focus on the bromance more than anything else. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I love this. I love the contrast in the Frick and Frack bromance versus the Nowie bromance. I love how you pointed out how similar Brian are. This is wrong but I ADORE that you Lucilled Nick! LMAO.

Author's Response: Thanks! I think the Brian/Howie relationship is interesting because they are similar in so many ways, yet seem the least close out of the five of them. Then I thought about how that might be because there's always been sort of an unsaid rivalry between them - competing over solos, being Nick's bestie. I have no doubt that they love each other just like the rest of the guys, but I wanted to explore that slight resentment they may secretly have toward each other, and it just made sense to put Nick at the center since they both have such a special relationship with him. And yes, I couldn't just have him get into a car accident or something boring like that. Let's hope he stays clear of Lucille at Walker Stalker! :) I'm glad you liked it! Thanks again!
