Chapter 1 by bsbknowsme
Introduction- Hi my name is Kacy Sawin. This is my first Nick Carter and Benji Madden fan fiction. Sure, I have written a few about both, but never together. This story basically focuses on Alyssa Jaynes, a seventeen-year-old high school senior who is dating Nick, and her identical twin sister, Anne-Marie Jaynes, who is dating Benji. They face their father leaving them alone with their twelve-year-old brother, Will. Then Benji gets sick, and slips into a coma.

Characters- Alyssa Riley Jaynes- raven black hair, brown eyes, tan skin, seventeen, 12th grade, one of the lead singers in Heaven’s Bane.

Anne-Marie Jaynes- same as Alyssa

Nickolas “Nick” Gene Carter- blond hair, blue eyes, tan skin, nineteen, out of school, member of Backstreet. Alyssa’s boyfriend

Benji Madden- black hair, brown eyes, tan skin, nineteen, out of school, member of Good Charlotte.

William “Will” Isaac Jaynes- dark brown hair, green eyes, tan skin, twelve, sixth grade.

Skye Williams- brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, seventeen, 12th grade, keyboardist in Heaven’s Bane

Jackson Williams- brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, nineteen, out of school, drummer in Heaven’s Bane

Chase Matthews- blond hair, green eyes, tan skin, eighteen, 12th grade, Skye’s boyfriend.

Others- Backstreet, Good Charlotte

Here is their story!

I scanned the room carefully from my perch on the railing, and hopped down when I saw a familiar blond head working its way through the crowd. The person stood in front of me, and I smiled. My boyfriend, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter stood in front of me, tall blond and handsome. My name is Alyssa Jaynes, I have black hair, hazel eyes, and stand at 5’7”. My identical twin, Anne-Marie Jaynes, and me are seventeen turning eighteen in four months. Anne-Marie is going out with Benji Madden of Good Charlotte. We live in Washington DC with our dad, who owns his own label, AMME records. Anyway, our mom died when we were little, so now we live with our dad. Anyway, I hugged him, and said, “Took you long enough.” He laughed, and we glanced over at Anne-Marie, or Annie for short, dancing with Benji. I smiled, and grabbed Nick’s hand. “Come dance with me.” I said, dragging him to the dance floor. Teenagers danced so close you couldn’t really tell where one body started and another ended. The nuns had tried to separate them to three inched apart, but they lost that battle, I looked like a naughty schoolgirl. Nick and I started dancing to “Let’s get Loud”, by Jennifer Lopez. Nick had his hands on my hips, moving us up and down. I leaned back into him, and said, “I’m glad you have a bit of Spanish blood in you.” “Why.” “Because you can dance really good.” The song ended and Nick led me away from the dance floor to where Benji and Anne-Marie were waiting to leave. We left and headed to Pop’s, a pizza place three streets away from where Anne-Marie and I lived with our dad. The guys ordered, and we girls headed to a booth. Catcalls followed me, and I said, “You’d think the guys would shut up.” I plopped down on one side of the bench, and waited for our food. When the guys came, we ate the pizza in silence.

The next day when Anne-Marie and I got up, we had to get ready for a gig. Our band, Heaven’s Bane, was performing at a local charity event. It was Anne-Marie, our friend Skye Michaels, her nineteen-year-old brother, Jackson and me. Skye played keyboard, Jackson drums, Anne-Marie played bass, and I played electric. Both Anne-Marie and I sang lead since we both had good voices. The charity event was for hurricane victims down south. I finished getting ready, and went down to the car Anne-Marie and I shared. After we loaded all the equipment in, we drove to the arena. Skye was sitting on the hood of Jackson’s car, talking to her boyfriend, a kid named Chase. I smiled, and helped Jackson set up for our slot since we were on first. Then we sang with other bands a song called “Come Together Now”. If you ask me, it sounded a little too pop like for my taste. Don’t get me wrong; I like pop music, but not too much. Anyway, Anne-Marie and Skye pulled me into our dressing room we shared with all the other girls, and we got changed into our usual outfits. We got onstage, and waited for the curtain to rise. When it did, Anne-Marie started playing our song, “Savin’ Me”:

Prison gates won't open up for me
On these hands and knees I'm crawlin'
Oh, I reach for you
Well I'm terrified of these four walls
These iron bars can't hold my soul in
All I need is you
Come please I'm callin'
And oh I scream for you
Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'

Then I joined for the chorus:

Show me what it's like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And I'll show you what I can be
Say it for me
Say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth saving me

Then I sang the second verse:

Heaven's gates won't open up for me
With these broken wings I'm fallin'
And all I see is you
These city walls ain't got no love for me
I'm on the ledge of the eighteenth story
And oh I scream for you
Come please I'm callin'
And all I need from you
Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'
Then the chorus came again. We were having the time of our life, and to us that’s all that mattered:

Hurry I'm fallin'

All I need is you
Come please I'm callin'
And oh, I scream for you
Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'

I smiled, and looked out into the crowd of people while Anne-Marie and I sang the chorus. Then came the last line of the song we all sang:

Hurry I'm fallin'

The crowd went wild, and we ran offstage. I sat down on one of the available couches, and soon a girl walked up to me. “You sing in Heaven’s Bane, right?” I nodded, and she smirked. “Sorry to say, but you guys stink.” I got up, and said, “Which band you in.” “Greek Authority.” I rolled my eyes, and sat down, watching her try to flirt with Jackson, who wasn’t having any of it. “Look, you insulted the band I’m in, so lay off. And I’d never go out with a girl with too much makeup on. Good Day.” We all cracked up, and she stormed off to her band mates, one of whom, I might add, looked just like the girl we had just laughed at. “Greek Authority you’re up.” They ran onstage, and Natasha, a solo singer, came backstage. “Hey guys.” She said, coming over. We have known Natasha since 1997, when we first met her at a local gig. We were fifteen, and Jackson was seventeen. I had been sick that day, and Natasha had offered me something to clear my head and throat. I had accepted, and we became good friends. I found out she goes to our school, and has a brother the same age as Will. Anyway, after all the acts were done, the announcer told everyone we would be performing Come Together Now. It was showing support for Hurricane Irene victims, even though Irene only happened a few weeks ago. Anyway, there was a lot of people performing this song, so we had to stand in front of and on the stage. Then the taped music started:

Finally, Anne-Marie and I arrived home to see Will crying. “Will.” We yelled, running over. “He left us.” “Who.” “Daddy.” I looked at my brother and sighed. He looked just like our dad, except younger. He crumpled against the sofa, and I said, “Annie, what are we gonna do?” She shrugged, and we did the only thing we could think of, comfort him. He sobbed against our shoulders, and we let him cry.

Two hours later, I was sitting on my bed, black hair in my face. “Karma.” I muttered, looking out the window. “Aly.” I looked up, and saw Will standing there, tears coursing down his face. “Go back to bed Will.” He nodded, and I looked back out my window. He went back to bed, and I lay down on my bed. I stared at the ceiling, and sighed. “Aly.” I looked up again to see Nick standing in the doorway. “What’s up?” “Nothing, Annie called me.” I nodded, and he sat down on the bed next to me.

Three hours later, I heard something or someone bang into the house. I shot downstairs. My dad was standing at the table, a bottle of gin in his hand. Anne-Marie ran downstairs with Will, and stopped when she saw our dad. “Hey kids.” He slurred, walking towards us. “Will, go to your room.” I said, backing up. “Aww, let him stay.” Our dad said, grabbing my arm. “GO.” I yelled, twisting away from our dad. Will ran off, and our dad snarled at me. “Never tell my son what to do.” “Why you’re always away so he listens to us.” Annie snarled, jumping out of his reach. “No one speaks to me like that.” He yelled, slapping me in the face. I reeled backwards, and stuttered, “D-D-D-D-Daddy.” “No.” He said, advancing towards Anne-Marie. She looked terrified as she backed into the corner, and put her arms over her head. Our dad laughed, and said, “S’matter Annie, scared of your daddy.” He grabbed her arm, and pulled her up. She screamed, and I whimpered. “Daddy please.” I begged, running over. “Go away.” He yelled, throwing me backwards. I yelped, and fell to the ground. Annie went to run to me, but he stopped her. She had been temporarily shocked at his actions, so she struggled. “Stop.” She pleaded, but all she got was a slap in the face. “WILL! Come see daddy.” I looked up to see Will frozen on the stairs, and mouthed, “NO” he shook his head, and gripped the banister fiercely. “Please.” Will shook his head harder, and stepped up one step. Our dad growled, and grabbed his keys, then said, “I’ll be back tomorrow. I want you guys up.” We nodded, and he slammed the door behind him. Will whimpered, and I said, “It’s okay Will.” I sat up, and watched him walk downstairs. He ran over to me, and I enveloped him in a tight hug. Anne-Marie smiled, and led Will to his room. I sat on the couch, and picked up the phone. “Nicky.” I said, holding the phone like it was my life. “Yes.” “Can you come over?” “What’s wrong?” “Nothing, I just need you here.” “I’ll be over soon.”

Later that night, I lay down on my bed, and stared at the ceiling. My cheek throbbed, and I rolled over onto my stomach. The light from the hall illuminated my dresser, which had a picture of my family at a concert/picnic in the city. I smiled, and closed my eyes.

Chapter 3 by bsbknowsme
Author's Notes:
this is long, really long
The next morning, I woke up to someone opening my door. I looked over to see Nick, and shot up just in time. He smiled, and launched onto the bed. I laughed, and leaned back against the pillows. Nick leaned into me, and I said, “Get off me you moose.” He laughed, and said, “No, I wanna ‘nuggle wit my angel.” I laughed, and said, “Stop talking like my nephew.” Nick looked up at me with his big blue eyes, and I caved. “Fine.” I huffed, scooting down. Nick grinned triumphantly, and said, “Thank you angel.” “Yeah, yeah, you owe me.” He pulled me close to him, and suddenly, I felt safe. That is, until the door banged open. “GET OUT.” My dad said, charging in. We jumped, and Nick left. “I just want you to know that I’m sorry.” “Whatever dad.” I huffed, walking out of the room. “Nick.” I yelled, running down the stairs. He turned around, and I surged into his arms. “Wanna go to my house.” “Yeah.” I muttered, burying my face in his chest. He pushed me towards the stairs, and I went into my room to get some clothes. My dad went to say something to me, but I shut the door in his face. I threw on a red Etnies t-shirt, jeans, and white sneakers. I ran down the stairs, and grabbed my school bag. “Let’s hit the road.” I said, jumping into the car. Nick peeled out of the driveway, and drove down the street to his house, well the house he rented when he was here. He said it was no use paying for a house when he could rent it for when he was here. I followed him into the small two-bedroom house, and fell down onto the couch. “What you want to eat Princess.” “Nothing.” I yelled, turning on the TV. Nick came back in the room, and pulled me into him. I smiled, and he started singing to me:
Open up your heart to me
And say what's on your mind, oh yes
I know that we have been through so much pain
But I still need you in my life this time

And I need you tonight
I need you right now
I know deep within my heart
It doesn't matter if it's wrong or right
I really need you tonight

I figured out what to say to you
But sometimes the words they, they come out so wrong, always they do
And I know in time that you will understand
That what we have is so right this time

And I need you tonight
I need you right now
I know deep within my heart
It doesn't matter if it's wrong or right

All those endless times we tried to make it last forever more
And baby I know
I need you
I know deep within my heart
It doesn't matter if it's wrong or right
I really need you, oh

I need you tonight (I need you, oh I need you baby)
I need you right now (It's gotta be this, it's gotta be this)
I know deep within my heart
No, it doesn't matter if it's wrong or it's right
All I know is baby
I really need you tonight

I looked up at Nick, and smiled. He shifted, and said, “I love you.” “Love you too.” Then we fell asleep.

The next day, I woke up, and pulled on my school uniform.
Nick whistled, and I smiled. He drove me to school, and said, “See you tonight.” I nodded, and got out of the car. Nick peeled away from the curb, and I walked inside. Anne-Marie ran over to me, and behind her I saw Skye’s worried face. “Hey guys.” I said, opening my locker. Anne-Marie smiled, and said, “Hey, Will is at Grandma’s today, he got sick last night.” I nodded, and followed Skye into our homeroom. They sat on desks, and I slid into my seat. Our homeroom teacher walked in, and rapped on the desk with her pointer. “Silence.” She said, taking attendance. The bell rang, and we scrambled to get to class.

Four hours later- I sighed, and tapped my pen against my notebook. The teacher flipped through the book, and started writing stuff on the board. We copied it down, and the PA crackled to life. “All cheerleaders please report to the gym.” I stood up, and walked to the gym, and met with my fellow cheerleaders. The coach smiled, and said, “Go put on your uniforms girls, practice is now instead of later.” I walked into the locker room and out in my uniform.
After practice, I headed to History. Anne-Marie looked up at me, and motioned for me to sit quickly before the teacher got here. I swooped into a seat, and pulled out my history book. The teacher walked in, and we started reading.

The last bell rang, and I walked out to see Nick kissing a popular girl. I spun on my heel, and ran after Anne-Marie. “Can Benji give me a ride.” I asked, motioning to Nick. “Sure.”

Later that night- I buried my face in the pillow, and started crying. A knock on my door made me look up. Brian walked in, and I said, “Go away.” “No, Nick wants you to see this.” He dragged me to an arena, and I stopped when I saw Nick. Then he started singing:

I never thought that I would lose my mind
That I could control this
Never thought that I'd be left behind
That I was stronger than you, baby
Girl if only I knew what I've done
You know, so why don't you tell me
And I, I would bring down the moon and the sun
To show how much I care

[Chorus:]
Don't wanna lose you now
Baby I know we can win this
Don't wanna lose you now
No no, or never again

I've got this feeling you're not gonna stay
It's burning within me
The fear of losing
Of slipping away
It keeps getting closer, baby
Whatever reason to live that I've had
My place was always beside you
And I wish that I didn't need you so bad
Your face just won't go away

[Chorus]

I never thought that I would lose my mind
That I could control this
Never thought that I'd be left behind
That I was stronger than you

Don't wanna lose to loneliness
Girl I know we can win
Don't wanna lose to emptiness, oh no
Never again

[Chorus]

By the end of the song, I was in tears. “Please forgive me?” Nick asked, and I nodded. He led me to his car, and began singing to me:

I'll be the one

I guess you were lost when I met you
Still there were tears in your eyes
So out of trust and I knew
No more than mysteries and lies

There you are, wild and free
Reachin' out like you needed me
A helping hand to make it right
I am holding you all through the night

[Chorus:]
I'll be the one (I'll be the one)
Who will make all your sorrows undone
I'll be the light (I'll be the light)
When you feel like there's nowhere to run
I'll be the one

To hold you and make sure that you'll be alright
'Cause my faith is gone
And I want to take you from darkness to light

There you are, wild and free
Reachin' out like you needed me
A helping hand to make it right
I am holding you all through the night

[Chorus]

To hold you, and make sure that you'll be alright

You need me like I need you
We can share our dreams comin' true
I can show you what true love means
Just take me hand, baby please...

I'll be the one
I'll be the light
Where you can run
To make it alright
I'll be the one
I'll be the light
Where you can run

[Chorus]

I'll be the one
I'll be the light
Where you can run
To make it alright
I'll be the one
I'll be the light
Where you can run
To make it alright
I'll be the one

To hold you, and make sure that you'll be alright
I'll be the one

I smiled, and Nick drove me home. After I fell asleep, he left.

The next morning, I rolled onto my side, and glanced at the clock. “SHOOT!” I cried, hurtling out of bed. Anne-Marie laughed at me, and went back to talking on her phone. I ran into the bathroom, and took a really quick shower. We had to go to court today for a case against our dad from two years ago. Some guy had crashed into our dad, and made it seem like it was my dad’s entire fault. We were in the car when the accident happened, so we were witnesses. I pulled on a light blue t-shirt, black skirt, black jacket, and light blue shoes.
Annie pulled on a red t-shirt, black pants, black jacket, and black shoes. Our dad was pacing the living room when we got downstairs. He ushered us into the awaiting car, and we drove downtown. The courthouse loomed in front of us, and I clutched Annie’s hand in fear. She smiled, and we got out of the car, watching our dad for instructions. He led us into the courtroom, and we waited.

Four hours, and plenty of questions later, our dad had won. We ran out of the courthouse, and into the car. “Come on, girls, party at our house.” We squealed, and as soon as we got home, called Nick and Benji, telling them to bring their families and group mates. Our dad called a bunch of his label’s bands, and then turned to us. “Wear whatever you want.” We nodded, and headed to our rooms to change. The doorbell rang at five, and I opened it to see Nick.“Hey hot stuff.” I said, taking his hand and leading him to the backyard, where my dad had cleared the patio for a dance floor. All the patio furniture had been placed on the lawn, and I sat on the loveseat. “ALY!” Someone screeched, and I looked up to see Roxie, one of my dad’s best singers. “Hey girl.” I said, hugging her. “NICK!” A voice cried, and I let go of Roxie to see Aaron dashing across the lawn towards us, the rest of the Carters approaching slowly. “Hey AC. You in town for the tour still.” “Yep.” “Nick. Alyssa.” Jane’s voice cut through the silence, and I stood up. After we all hugged, Nick’s family went to go sit. Soon Benji arrived.Joel tagged along at his elbow, and Josh hovered behind them. “Loosen up Benj.” I chuckled, passing him a Pepsi. Joel was watching one of my dad’s new singers dance on the floor, and I said, “She’s single Joel.” He blushed, and said, “Was I that obvious.” “Yep.” Josh said, licking his lips, watching Roxie with interest. “Go ahead Josh, she likes blonds.” He smiled, and headed towards her. Joel was still watching the girl. “Her name’s Ashlynn.” Joel smiled faintly, and licked his lips. “I’ll try.” He headed over to Ashlynn, hands shoved deep in his pockets. I watched until they were dancing, and turned back to Nick. “You’re quite the matchmaker.” He chuckled, pulling me into his lap. “Hey, where are my baby cousin’s?” A voice said, walking towards us. “Marshall.” We screamed, running at him. He laughed, and hugged us. “So how’s the rap business?” “Good, good.” He looked over at Nick, and asked, “Whose blondie?” “That’s Nick, remember.” “Oh yeah, the Backstreet Punk.” “Who you calling a punk?” A voice said from behind us. “AJ.” I said, briefly hugging him. Then I heard Marshall’s voice on a mic. “I just wanna rap this for fun.” Then he started:

OK, I'm going to attempt to drown myself
You can try this at home
You can be just like me!

Mic check one two.. We recordin?
I'm cancerous, so when I diss you wouldn't wanna answer this
If you responded back with a battle rap you wrote for Canibus
I strangled you to death then I choked you again
Then break your f’in legs till your bones poke through your skin
You beef wit me, I'ma even the score equally
Take you on Jerry Springer, and beat yer butt legally
I get you blunted off of funny home grown
Cause when I smoke out I hit the trees harder than Sonny Bono
(Ohh no!!) So if I said I never did drugs
That would mean I lie AND get screwed more than the President does
Hillary Clinton tried to slap me and call me a pervert
I ripped her f’in tonsils out and fed her sherbet (Bitch!)
My nerves hurt, and lately I'm on edge
Grabbed Vanilla Ice and ripped out his blonde dreads (Fuck you!)
Every girl I ever went out wit is goin lez
Follow me and do exactly what the song says:
smoke weed, take pills, drop outta school, kill people and drink
And jump behind the wheel like it was still legal
I'm dumb enough to walk in a store and steal
So I'm dumb enough to ask for a date with Lauryn Hill
Some people only see that I'm white, ignorin skill
Cause I stand out like a green hat with a orange bill
But I don't get pissed, y'all don't even see through the mist
How the fuck can I be white, I don't even exist
I get a clean shave, bathe, go to a rave
Die from an overdose and dig myself up out of my grave
My middle finger won't go down, how do I wave?
And this is how I'm supposed to teach kids how to behave?

Now follow me and do exactly what you see
Don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!
I slap women and eat shrooms then O.D.
Now don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!

Me and Marcus Allen went over to see Nicole
When we heard a knock at the door, must have been Ron Gold'
Jumped behind the door, put the orgy on hold
Killed em both and smeared blood in a white Bronco (we did it!)
My mind won't work if my spine don't jerk
I slapped Garth Brooks out of his Rhinestone shirt
I'm not a player just a ill rhyme sayer
That'll spray an Aerosol can up at the ozone layer (psssssssh)
My rap style's warped, I'm runnin out the morgue
witcha dead grandmother's corpse to throw it on your porch
Jumped in a Chickenhawk cartoon wit a cape on
And beat up Foghorn Leghorn with an acorn
I'm bout as normal as Norman Bates, with deformative traits
A premature birth that was four minutes late
Mother.. are you there? I love you
I never meant to hit you over the head with that shovel
Will someone explain to my brain that I just severed
a main vein with a chainsaw and I'm in pain?
I take a breather and sighed; either I'm high, or I'm nuts
Cause if you ain't tiltin this room, neither am I
So when you see your mom with a thermometer shoved in her butt
Then it probably is obvious I got it on with her
Cause when I drop this solo shit it's over with
I bought Cage's tape, opened it, and dubbed over it

I came to the club drunk with a fake ID
Don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!
I've been with 10 women who got HIV
Now don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!
I got genital warts and it burns when I pee
Don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!
I tie a rope around my neck and jump from a tree
You probably wanna grow up to be just like me!!!

He finished, and we started to jump and down. “Marshall, that was amazing.” I screamed, running over to hug him. “You liked it.” He asked, hugging me back. “Yeah, dude. I may not like rap that much, but that was amazing. Blew me away.” Nick said, walking over. I smiled, and looked over at Marshall. “Sorry I called you a punk.” “It’s okay dude.” Nick said, shaking Marshall’s hand. I laughed, and said, “Nick, don’t get all mushy with my cousin.” He laughed, and whispered something in Marshall’s ear. He laughed, and nodded. “What’d you ask him.” I said, watching him walk towards the DJ. “Nothing.” “Riight.” I muttered, watching my cousin talk to the DJ. Suddenly, the strains of a song could be heard over the speakers. It was Enrique Inglesias, “You’re my number one”:

I’ve kissed the moon a million times
danced with angels in
The sky
I’ve seen snowfall in the summertime
Felt the
Healing of the powers above

I turned to Nick, who was grinning like a fool. “Dance.” He said, sweeping me into his arms. I laughed, and followed him to the dance floor. He smiled, and drew me into his arms. I leaned against him, and we swayed in time to the music. Nick rested his hands on me hips, and I rested mine against his neck. We were silent listening to the song:

I’ve seen the world from
The highest mountain
Tasted love from the purest
Fountain
I’ve seen lips that spark desire
Felt the
Butterflies a hundred times

I’ve even seen
Miracles
I’ve felt the pain disappear
but still
Haven’t seen anything
That amazes me quite like you do

Chorus:
You bring me up when I’m feeling down
You touch me deep you touch me right
You do the things
I’ve never done
you make me wicked you make me wild
Cause baby you’re my #1

I’ve sailed in a perfect
Dream
I’ve seen the sun make love to the sea
I’ve
Kissed the moon a million times
Danced with angels in the
Sky

I’ve even seen miracles
I’ve seen the tears
Disappear
But still haven’t seen anything
that amazes
Me quite like you do

Chorus 2x

Chapter 4 by bsbknowsme
I separated from him, and stalked over to my cousin. “What.” He asked, turning to me. “What was that about?” “Nick wanted to dance with you, but you were focusing on me, so I did that.” “Oh.” I laughed, and felt arms wrap around my waist. “Baaby.” Nick cooed, turning me around in his arms. “Whaat?” I mocked, looking back at Marshall. He laughed, and shrugged. “I wanna dance again.” “Again! We just finished.” “Please.” He said, making a puppy face. “Now how can I resist that?” “Yay.” “Let’s make this fun. A dance contest. Me, Skye, Roxie, Ashlynn, and Sarah against you, Kevin, Brian, Howie, and AJ.” “Sure, you pick the song, I’ll get everyone.” I sauntered over to the DJ, and chose “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) the extended version” by BSB. Nick walked over with everyone, and I cued the DJ. “Okay everyone. Nick wanted to dance with Aly, but she wanted to have a dance off, so here it is.” He started the track, and AJ jumped out. I watched intently, learning his style, thinking who would be best against him. “Sarah.” I said, watching him start to finish up. She walked out, and confidently started to dance. I could see Nick’s eyes watching, whispering to Howie. Sarah stopped, and Howie walked out. Having seen him dance before, I said, “Ashlynn, give them the sexy siren routine.” She nodded, and jumped out the second Howie finished. Nick and Brian’s jaws both dropped, and I saw Nick whisper furiously to Brian, making hand gestures to them and us. Brian nodded, and tied his shoes. Brian walked out, and cranked out moves. “Roxie, go get ‘em.” I said, pushing her out. She smiled, and started to do her thing, making the boys jump over each other to get to her. Kevin stepped out, and I smiled. He did the best moves he had, but I had better. After Kevin stopped, Skye slid out. AJ’s eyes popped out of his head when he saw Skye in all her punk beauty. It took Annie and I twenty minutes to get her ready because she was so picky. Anyway, she cranked out her moves, and Nick slid out. His body moved fluidly, but when it came to his last move, I was already hyper to dance. I back flipped out, and started dancing. Nick grinned when I felt the music flood my body. Whoops and cheers suddenly sounded, and Marshall whispered. “My partner, no one else’s.” He gripped my waist, and I said, “It’s single’s sorry cuz.” He nodded, and slid over to Annie, who was laughing. I cranked out moves, my segment going farther. Everyone else had twenty seconds, but I took thirty. I wiggled my hips, and turned around to face Nick. His mouth was open, and Brian laughed to keep him on Earth. I glided over to him, sexily touching his arm. Brian nearly peed his pants at Nick’s face. I stepped off the dance floor, and said to Skye, “He almost peed his pants.” Then the guys stepped out for a short group dance, and I smiled. “Let’s go girls.” We whooped, and started dancing. Nick walked around to face me, and stepped into the circle. He drew me into his arms, trying to make me weak by turning on his charm. I pushed him away, and kept dancing. The music and we struck a pose. “Okay, okay, okay. Now for the crowd to decide. Who wants the guys to win?” Lots of clapping and whoops followed, but the DJ quieted everyone down. “Okay who wants the girls to win?” The whole place burst into cheers, and the DJ laughed. “The girls win!” We smiled, and I turned to Nick. “Never issue a girl a dancing challenge.” “Where’d you learn to dance like that?” “From shows. Nick I grew up backstage and on the road practically.” “Yeah, I remember my first tour. She was thirteen.” Roxie stated, ruffling my hair. “Sssh, you’re only a year older.” I snapped, brushing her hand off. She laughed, and said, “Still. Nick you should’ve seen her moves. For a thirteen-year-old, she had great moves. She moved like she was twenty-two. Better than my twenty-six-year-old sister.” I laughed, and leaned back against Nick. “Nicky, I’m thirsty.” I whined, turning to face him. He smiled, and said, “Okay.” He left me, and I turned to Roxie. “Girl. He is so whipped.” “I know.” I giggled. Nick came back, and handed me a water bottle. I smiled, and kissed his cheek. “Thanks honey.” “No prob.” Nick said, pulling me into him. Roxie rolled her eyes, and said, “I’m gonna go talk to Josh.” “Okay.” I said, leaning back into Nick.

Two days later, Anne-Marie and I hopped out of our dad’s car. “Bye Daddy.” I yelled, watching him drive away. “Let’s go.” I said, walking inside. Annie followed me until I saw of my friends from the cheerleading squad. Annie walked over to her locker and I said, “Hey.” “Hey hun.” Tanya said, hugging me. “What’s up with how your sister dresses?” Skyla asked, looking over at Anne-Marie.“Nothing.” I said defensively, looking at what they were wearing.“Besides, if you don’t like what Annie’s wearing you don’t like what I’m wearing.” I said, looking at my outfit.“Oh no, you rock that outfit, she just, eew.” Bridget said, shuddering. “Well if you can’t see past her outfit, I guess I ain’t on the cheerleading squad anymore.” I huffed, walking away. “Wait.” Corrine yelled, chasing after me. “Lay off.” I said, yanking my arm out of her grip. I jogged over to Annie, and said, “They were being stupid, and so I quit cheerleading.” “About time.” She grumbled, walking with me to class. I laughed, and slid into my seat, tapping my foot to the beat in my head. The girl next to me glanced at me, but kept her mouth shut. I turned my attention to the board, and began to write.

Six hours later, Anne-Marie and I huffed into our house. Will was stretched across the couch, pain etched in his face. “What’s wrong?” “Someone hurt my arm.” “Who?” “A kid at school.” “Oh.” The doorbell rang, and I ran to answer it. “Marshall?” I asked, standing aside so he could come in. Little did I know, he came bearing bad news.
Chapter 5 by bsbknowsme
Author's Notes:
this happens before Eminem delivers the bad news to Alyssa and Anne-Marie. The only reason he knew was because he had to pick up Hailee from the hospital because she hadn't been feeling well
Benji’s P.O.V.

I groaned, and rolled over onto my side. “JOEL.” I hollered, rubbing my face. He hurried into the room, and said, “You feel okay Benji?” “No, can we just go the hospital.” “Sure.”

When we got there, all I remembered before passing out is Joel calling my name.
Chapter 6 by bsbknowsme
Twenty minutes later, Anne-Marie and I bolted out of our dad’s car. “We’re here to see Benji Madden.” I said to the receptionist. “Sorry, he can’t have visitors.” I looked over at Anne-Marie to see Joel walking over. She looked up, and started sobbing. “My sister is freaking out that her boyfriend is in ICU, and you’re telling me we can’t even go see him through the glass. I’m this close to snapping. Do you know how close we all are? No don’t answer that.” I felt arms around my waist, and Nick’s voice in my ear. “Sweetie calm down.” “I can’t Nick. I’m freaking out. How did he bypass how he felt?” “Maybe he didn’t want to worry you guys.” Nick said, leading me to a chair. I nodded, and sat on Nick’s lap.
Chapter 7 by bsbknowsme
One hour later, a doctor walked out. “You all here to see Benji Madden?” “Yes.” We said, standing up. “He is a coma, but you can see him through the glass.” We followed him up to Benji’s room, and stopped when we saw him. Annie started crying, and Joel wrapped his arms around her and said, “Sssh, sweetie. He’ll be okay.” She only nodded, and Nick pulled me into his arms. I wrapped my arms around his chest, and looked at Benji. Nick rubbed my back, and I sniffed. “Why Nick, why.” I sobbed; looking at the guy who was like an older brother to me lay on a hospital bed, fighting for his life. Sobs racked my body as his face flushed even more, and I looked over at Annie. She was crying in Joel’s arms, her body shaking violently. “Annie.” I called, separating from Nick. She looked up, and saw the tears in my eyes. Annie rushed over to me, and we hugged fiercely.
Chapter 8 by bsbknowsme
Author's Notes:
i got the song from Monkey Abu-Misery, so thanks
I choked back a sob as I sang along with Nick, Joel, and Annie:
Constant pain every day
I wonder when happiness will come my way
Days of sorrow
Days of tears
Hours of living all of my fears
Moments of weakness
Moments of shame
I wish it all would disappear
I wish it all would go away

Clouds of darkness all around
Cast shadows of insecurities on the ground
A thick black darkness blankets my life
As I continue to wander blindly searching for light

Where is there freedom?
I feel like I’m bound in chains
I cry out for salvation
But all I can hear is thunder and rain

The voice of failure taunts me inside
“Give up, stop fighting. Just lie down and die.”
Misery, it echoes with laughter so fierce
Robbing me of my strength
And reinforcing my tears

With each step I take, I stumble and I fall
And I find myself getting nowhere at all
I wish I could stop and no longer try
To keep on fighting this enemy eating me inside
When can I rest?
When will I find peace?
Where is that light?
Does it still shine somewhere within me?

God help me now
I feel weak and alone
The air is cold and suffocating
It chills me painfully to the bone
I’m blind with agony
I can no longer see

Your love and good grace
Long ago you bestowed deep in me
Slowly dragging
Can’t keep the pace

Lord I don’t think I can win this race
Don’t want to continue fighting
Don’t want to feel the pain
Just want to lay down and rest
And make it all go away

It had been one month since Benji was in the coma, and Annie and I were turning eighteen in two days. As we were going out of the house, the phone rang. “Hello, Jaynes residence.” I said, cradling the phone between my ear and shoulder. “Look on page six.” Nick said, and I said, “You okay baby.” “Yeah, but you gotta see this, page five of the Times.” I picked up the paper and turned to page six. A huge picture of Nick, Joel, Annie, Benji, and I graced the front page. “Is Benji Fading as Anne-Marie’s Star” was written in bold, and Benji was faded in that picture. “You gotta be kidding me.” I said, tossing Anne-Marie the paper.
Chapter 9 by bsbknowsme
The next day I pulled on a pair of destroyed low-rise five-pocket jeans, a camouflage thermal long-sleeved shirt, a sleeveless black hoodie with a funky heart detail near where my heart was, and a pair of black Puma sneakers, all from Delia’s. Anne-Marie got dressed in Black Cargo pants, a Rolling Stones Flaming Tongue T-Shirt, Serious Pink Gun Sleeveless Thermal Hoodie, and Anarchic Black Pink Star Skater Shoes, all from Hot Topic. She smiled, and we headed to the hospital to check on Benji. When we got there, the nurse waved to us. “No change girls.” One of the younger nurses said, pushing a piece of her blue streaked hair out of her face. I smiled, and led the way to Benji’s room. He was still the same, except; he had cards and all that fancy stuff from fans. I stepped out of the hospital, and wiped my eyes. So many GC fans had come to the concert we had held, in honor of Benji. They asked about him, and we tried our best to console them, but not everyone stopped crying. I slumped against the brick wall, and pulled out my cell phone, dialing the hotel Nick and the guys were in. “Hello?” Brian asked, obviously out of breath from running to the phone. “B-Brian.” “Aly, what’s wrong.” I heard a yelp in the background, and suddenly, Brian said, “You’re on speaker hun, what’s wrong?” “Nuthin, seeing Benji got me upset. I kept thinking it could’ve been anyone of us.” “Aww, Aly, don’t think like that.” AJ cooed, making me sob. “Smooth Jay, make my already upset girlfriend cry even more. Baby, you want me to come out there.” “NO, but can you fly me out there.” “Alyssa Riley Jaynes, you can’t come out here because you have school.” Kevin warned sternly, I sobbed again, and I heard someone whisper something. “Aly, baby, want us to sing your favorite song?” “P-Please.” I whimpered, sliding down the wall. “Okay, hold on.” I heard their throats clear, and then they started singing:
Baby, can I talk to you?
I know something's wrong
Things just ain't the same
But deep down inside
I know you still care
So tell me what to do
To get things back
The way they used to be

If you were to need me
If you really cared about me
Tell me why can't I find love in your heart
If you were my lover
A constant friend to me
Tell me why
Would you turn away from my love

[Chorus:]
So darlin'
Tell me what to do to make things right
Darlin'
Tell me what to do to make things right
Darlin'
Tell me what to do to make things right for love
Tell me what to do to make things right for love (for love)

If you want a reason
When they won't turn away from me
They're trying hard to hide all truth they might say
If you listen to me girl
If you know how I'm feeling inside
Then maybe you wouldn’t shut me out your life, baby

[Chorus]

[Bridge:]
Can't you see?
All I'm asking for
Is a chance to let me love you
Can't you see?
Girl, you know with me
Is where you should be
And if by chance we should find
That it can be for you and I
Then girl I'll try
I'll try
Oh baby

[Chorus]

[Spoken:]
Girl, you should know how I feel by now
There's so many ways to love
So just open your heart
And I'll find the way

[Bridge]

[Chorus]
“That better babe.” Nick said, clearing his throat. “Yeah, but can I ask you a very important question?” “Sure shoot.” “What’s gonna happen if Benji never wakes up?” “He will baby.” “I know, but what happens if he doesn’t.” “Then we’ll move him in with you.” “Why me?” “Because you asked.” “Oh.” “Silly girl.” AJ said, and I heard him yelp as someone, namely Nick, pushed him away, and he landed on the couch arm. “You are so dead Carter.” Nick yelped, and I heard him run away, with AJ chasing him. “Alyssa?” Howie asked, sitting on the bed. I heard another creak, and Brian said, “Want me to rescue your boyfriend?” “Please Rok, I would like him to live.” “Okay, we’ll see you tomorrow.” “Okay, bye.” “Bye.” They hung up, and I walked back inside. Annie walked out of Benji’s room, and said, “You ready?” I nodded, and we called our dad to pick us up. He arrived, and we drove home. Annie bolted to her room, and I sighed. I went into my room, passing Annie’s, which had music blasting. I sighed, and picked up my guitar, playing a familiar tune:

I was broken and jaded
Always underestimated
No one ever cared about
What I did or said
No one ever came to rescue me
When I was falling

(Chorus)
I was falling
Falling through the stars
Never stopping
I was spinning
Spinning through the sky
Never ceasing
I was running
Running through the rain
Never slowing
I was falling…falling…falling

No one ever saw
What all the pain did to me
All the masks protected me
If only for a little while
But now I look back
Onto those darkened days
And realize how I was falling
Falling straight into your arms

(Chorus) x2

I was falling
Falling from the heavens
Never stopping
Until I found you

I looked up when I heard someone sniff. Annie stood in my doorway, eyes watering profusely. I smiled, and put my guitar down. Opening my arms for her, I muttered, “Come on sis.” She smiled, and sat next to me on my bed. “Thanks.” She muttered, starting to fall asleep. I smiled, and said to a sleeping Annie, “No prob sis.” Her light snoring was all I heard for a couple minutes before I untangled from her arms, and walked down stairs after changing into my pajamas. Will smiled at me from the couch, and I plopped down next to him. “Hey Will, what’s up.” “Besides the ceiling, nothing.” He said, chuckling slightly. I laughed, and said, “Ha ha, you gonna go to bed soon.” “At six, no. Why? Annie already asleep?” “Ya, she’s worn out, Benji being in the hospital has the poor girl tired out, She doesn’t sleep, and when she does, she has nightmares.” Will nodded, and I relaxed against the couch. Then I heard Annie say, “Why’d you leave?” “Arm was numb.” I answered, showing her my still red arm. She smiled, and looked down at our matching pajamas. Will laughed, and said, “You two crack me up.” We looked at each other, and smiled. Will shook his head, and left the room. Annie slumped onto the couch, and said, “The guys coming out for our birthday?” “Yeah, Nick said something about a fancy dinner. Although you know that will not happen, we’ll probably end up on the couch in sweats watching TV.” Annie laughed, and said, “Yeah Joel, Paul, and Billy are coming too.” I nodded, and changed the TV channel to MTV. “And we just wanna send our prayers to Benji Madden, who is in a coma right now.” I heard Annie sniff, and changed the channel. “Better.” “Yeah.” She nodded, and looked up at me. I smiled, and said, “Ya know what, let’s get dressed, and head out.” Annie nodded we went to change. Five minutes later I looked down at my outfit. Then Annie walked in dressed in a white t-shirt, jeans, and jacket.I laughed, and grabbed my car keys, ready to go. Annie followed me, ready to hit the town. We each had credit cards our dad had given us, so we were set.Annie hopped into the passenger seat, and said, “Let’s hit the road.” We pulled out of the driveway, and onto the main road. Two hours later, we came home with three shopping bags each. We put our stuff away, and lounged around the house all day.
Chapter 10 by bsbknowsme
The next day after Annie and I came home, Nick was waiting for us out front. “Hey girls.” “Hey babe.” I said, hugging him. He smiled, and followed us into the house. “Do you act like this with Kevin.” I said, turning around to face him. “Nope. He would kill me if I did.” I laughed, and said, “What makes you think I’m not different.” “Because you love me.” He said, wrapping his arms around me, making me squeal. “Why are you so sure she loves you Carter.” Annie said, smiling. “Because if she didn’t I wouldn’t be here.” Nick retorted laughing, and I smiled. “Happy Birthday boo.” I smiled, and said, “Thank you.” Annie smiled, and said, “What about me?”“Happy Birthday.” I laughed, and went into the kitchen. Nick and Annie followed, and I opened a bag of cookies. Nick’s eyes went huge, and I smiled. “Here.” I said, giving him one. “Thanks.” He said, taking them. Suddenly, the front door slammed open. “Get out of my house.” My dad said, storming into the kitchen. Nick gulped, and went to leave. “No.” I said simply, grabbing his arm. My dad opened his mouth to say something, but I glared at him. My dad grunted, and I led Nick to my room. He smiled, and shut the door, kissing me.

Two hours later, Nick left, and I lay panting in my bed. Our make out session had been intense, and Nick stopped fifteen minutes ago. So I let him leave me panting on my bed. I was thinking about my relationship with Nick when my dad burst in. “What the heck do you think you are doing with that boy.” “Umm, let me think. KISSING.” I yelled, getting defensive. My dad walked over, getting angry. “If you live under my roof, my number one rule is no boys making out with you.” “Then I guess you’ll have to yell at Annie too.” I said, crossing my arms. “No, it’s not gonna do you two any good, so I guess your out.”
