-1995-

“Angela! Angela!” Alex came running into my house, yelling for me like a mad man.

Running down the steps, I saw him with a package and a huge smile plastered across his face. “Alex, what is it?!”

“We did it! We actually did it! I just can’t believe it’s actually happening…”

“Alex,” I said grabbing his shoulders, “you’re rambling. What’s happening?”

He looked in my eyes, smiled, and showed me a cassette, “We have a single.”

“Really?” I asked my best friend, smiling and jumping in his arms. “I’m so happy for you guys! You’ve worked so hard for this!”

“I know! It's called 'We've Got It Going On.' It's an upbeat, hip hop flavored song, it's great. But it’s kinda crazy to think that it’s happening this fast. I mean we recorded it a few days ago, it goes to radio next week, and then we have all these promotional tours for it.”

Walking to the couch it hit me that he’d be leaving me. Our relationship isn’t your typical one. We’ve been best friends since we practically came out of the womb. We were born 3 days apart, our moms met at a Lamaze class, and instantly became friends when they realized how close their babies were due.

Alex and I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, we’re both 17 years old, and are still as inseparable as we were in diapers. About 3 years ago, Alex joined a singing group and has been working non-stop, along with the 4 other guys, Kevin, Brian, Nick, and Howie, to achieve their dreams of successful music careers. Speaking of the guys, they've become quite good friends to me as well. Especially Nick. In the few short years I've known him, we've grown close, closer than most know. We've been dating for about 4 months, however, no one knows.

As happy as I am for my best friend and confidant, I know he’ll be gone for some time, and I will miss him more than I care to admit, as well as Nick.

“Where will you be touring?” I asked, trying to sound excited for him.

“So far they’ve talked about touring the country. Mostly New York, California, and a few other random places. Then, we’ll be..” He trailed off, looking away.

“What Alex? Where are you going?”

“They said in the summer we’ll be leaving for Europe, and we’ll be there for 6-8 months.”

“Oh.” I said. “Well, we better hang out now then.” I smiled. “I’m really happy for you Alex. I really am. I always knew you could do it, and you guys are going to be a huge success. Mark my words.”

“Thanks, Angel. I couldn’t have gotten this far without you in my life. You will always be my best friend, no matter what happens in our lives. I promise.”
