Title

                      An Illicit Gentleman

                           Chapter Three

The sun sat at three o’clock and his glasses did nothing to block it.  His eyes were closed and he listened to the water splashing onto the shore not to far away.  The plastic chair he was sitting in was not making a good bed, and it kept him from falling asleep right there on Howie’s patio.  It was a Backstreet day and everyone was at D’s for a little relax time.  AJ had even told Sarah to come, keeping up appearances more than anything; although a lot of good it did, since she spent the whole day bickering with him.  The only thing that kept him sane was his Jack and the thought of meeting up with Mats later in hopes they’d go to Messieurs.

“I want to go home.” Sarah said as he caught the feeling of someone standing over him.

“Then go home.” AJ said turning his head a little towards her.

“I mean back to our house so we can talk.” She told him.

“I’m going out tonight.” He replied.

“But I want to talk; I think we need to talk.” She said and he heard her anger coming again.

“You had all day to talk and you chose to bitch instead, I’m here till after dinner than I’m going out.” He told her again.  Sarah huffed and grunted as she stood up and flew into the house.  A moment later he felt someone standing over him again and he opened one eye to see who it was.

“Everything ok?” Kevin asked.

“Yeah” AJ replied closing it again.

“Didn’t look like it.” His band mate said as he sat down in the chair across from him.

“I already made plans for later tonight, they don’t fit hers and she’s throwing a fit.” AJ said shrugging it off.  “She’s been bitching at me all day.”

“I heard she’s staying with a friend.”

“Yeah wants us to cool down, looks like she’s not done cooling down so she can fucking stay there a few more days.” AJ replied showing frustration to the conversation. “Glad we came in separate cars.” He smirked.

“How much have you had to drink?” Kevin asked.

“Oh for the love of…” AJ growled as he stood up.  “I’m going home to get ready for tonight.”

“What about dinner?” Kevin asked.

“I’ll grab some on the way home.” AJ said as he headed into the house.

He was a little surprised he didn’t get any opposition on the way out but he was also glad, not wanting to fight with them too.  AJ climbed into his car and pulled out of Howie’s driveway.  Stopping at the McDonalds closest to his house he grabbed something to eat and then proceeded home.

Sitting in the living room he unpacked his food and began to dine on his meal.  A ringing made him put down his burger and he reached into his pocket, trying not to get any grease on his phone.

“Hello?” He answered his mouth still a little full.

“Hey man just making sure we’re still on for tonight.” Mats said on the other end.

“Yeah man, I’m just having some dinner and then getting ready.” AJ told him.  “Where are we going?” He asked hoping Mats would say the club.

“Well I know where you wanna go.” Mats said jokingly.

“Huh?” AJ said playing stupid.

“I heard you were at the club the other night all by yourself.” Mats teased.

“Who told you I was there?” AJ asked but he knew.

“Eve.” Mats laughed.  “She said she got ya drunk and took you home.”

“What? No.” AJ said defensively.  “Oh wait I guess she kind of did.” He said as he remembered she bought his drinks that night.

“Yeah well I hate you, a year I’ve been trying to get her and sweet fuck all but you Mr. Backstreet Boy walks in and she’s buying you drinks.” Mats scoffed.

“Hey dude when you got it, you got it.” AJ joked.

“She laughed until I asked her if Sarah was home.” Mats said into the phone and AJ’s heart stopped.

“You what?” He replied his tone stone cold but his blood pressure was boiling.  A silence was heard at the other end and then a holler of laughter.

“Damn dude, I hope you have a few lines with ya, sounds like you need it.” Mats laughed into the phone.

“Fuck you douche bag, where do I meet you?” AJ sighed into the phone, a little annoyed with the joke but a little relieved he didn’t really ask her that.

“At the club at six, we’re gonna have fun tonight man, no worries.” Mats told him.

“Sure.” AJ replied.  “I’ll see ya then.”

He hung up the phone and sat it on the cushion beside him.  Staring at it he thought about Eve, the dreams he had been having about her, how he woke up from them alone and well, AJ wasn’t shy about the self pleasure subject. Even during the day she still filled his thoughts and he couldn’t figure out why.  There was really nothing special too her, sure she was pretty, beautiful to him even but nothing that really stood out.  Well except for her dancing but even then why her? What was so special about her? What was it about her that made him want to have her dance for just him?  Why did he want to feel her lips against his, and why did he want her so much he was willing to lose Sarah over a chance to find out.

“I want know.” He said as he sat back.  “I want to know.” He said again confirming in his mind what he needed to do.

After he had finished eating, he showered, groomed and got dressed for the evening.  He tidy up the place just in case they came back to his house.  After the other night he felt it was more wishful thinking than anything.  He wondered if she had said anything to Mats about the invite that night.  When he walked down the stairs he looked at the clock in the hallway and it read fifteen minutes to six.  Double checking his phone and keys he walked out the door and locked it behind him.  He made his way to his car and pulled out of the driveway, making sure the gate was closed this time.

When he got to Messieurs he noticed the parking lot was pretty full but found a decent spot close to the building.  He hoped this time when he came out he would remember the right car.  When he walked up to the front door he noticed a sign on the window.

“Amateurs Night” He read in his head.  A little confused he walked into the club and looked around for Mats.  As he looked over the sea of people he saw his friend sitting at a booth and then he saw the two girls sitting beside him.  One was a dancer he recognized from waiting for Eve to come out, the other girl was Eve.  Still unsure what was going on he made his way over to the booth, and took a deep breath before he approached them.

“There he is.” Mats said with a smile as the table looked up at him.  “Have a seat man.” He said motioning for his friend to sit down.  “AJ this is Candice, Candice this is AJ.”

“Hi AJ nice to meet you.” The woman said with a smile.

“And you know Eve.” Mats said with a smirk.

“Hi” AJ said acknowledging her for the first time since his little break down in the car.

“Hi.” She replied with a warm smile.  It made him relax a little.

“AJ want a Jack?” Mats asked.

“Love one.” AJ nodded as his friend got up.  He watched as Mats got up with Candice in tow and headed to the bar.

“So how ya been?” Eve asked.

“Good, busy but good.” He replied with a light nod. Eve nodded with a small smile.  AJ scrambled to think of something to say.  “What’s going on tonight seems really busy.”

“Amateur Night, Girls can win five hundred bucks, always a packed night.” Eve told him.

“Oh so you’re not dancing tonight?” AJ asked.

“Nope it’s my night off.” She said as she lifted her glass.

“Sweet.” AJ smiled and she laughed.  “I wanted to apologize again for the other night, too much to drink, way too much.”

“It’s ok.” Eve said as she put her glass down.

“It was rude of me and…” Eve interrupted him.

“And you didn’t let me answer.” She said and his face fell stunned.

“Ok one Jack.” Mats said as an arm came down in front of AJ.  He looked at the glass still trying to figure out if he heard her right.  “Drink up before the uglies come out.”

“Mats.” Candice sighed as she lightly slapped him.  As AJ laughed he looked over at Eve who was laughing too.  He wasn’t sure if it was the Jack or something else but the feeling of wanting her was becoming a little to much to bear.
