The next day I pulled on a pair of destroyed low-rise five-pocket jeans, a camouflage thermal long-sleeved shirt, a sleeveless black hoodie with a funky heart detail near where my heart was, and a pair of black Puma sneakers, all from Delia’s. Anne-Marie got dressed in Black Cargo pants, a Rolling Stones Flaming Tongue T-Shirt, Serious Pink Gun Sleeveless Thermal Hoodie, and Anarchic Black Pink Star Skater Shoes, all from Hot Topic. She smiled, and we headed to the hospital to check on Benji. When we got there, the nurse waved to us. “No change girls.” One of the younger nurses said, pushing a piece of her blue streaked hair out of her face. I smiled, and led the way to Benji’s room. He was still the same, except; he had cards and all that fancy stuff from fans. I stepped out of the hospital, and wiped my eyes. So many GC fans had come to the concert we had held, in honor of Benji. They asked about him, and we tried our best to console them, but not everyone stopped crying. I slumped against the brick wall, and pulled out my cell phone, dialing the hotel Nick and the guys were in. “Hello?” Brian asked, obviously out of breath from running to the phone. “B-Brian.” “Aly, what’s wrong.” I heard a yelp in the background, and suddenly, Brian said, “You’re on speaker hun, what’s wrong?” “Nuthin, seeing Benji got me upset. I kept thinking it could’ve been anyone of us.” “Aww, Aly, don’t think like that.” AJ cooed, making me sob. “Smooth Jay, make my already upset girlfriend cry even more. Baby, you want me to come out there.” “NO, but can you fly me out there.” “Alyssa Riley Jaynes, you can’t come out here because you have school.” Kevin warned sternly, I sobbed again, and I heard someone whisper something. “Aly, baby, want us to sing your favorite song?” “P-Please.” I whimpered, sliding down the wall. “Okay, hold on.” I heard their throats clear, and then they started singing:
Baby, can I talk to you?
I know something's wrong
Things just ain't the same
But deep down inside
I know you still care
So tell me what to do
To get things back
The way they used to be

If you were to need me
If you really cared about me
Tell me why can't I find love in your heart
If you were my lover
A constant friend to me
Tell me why
Would you turn away from my love

[Chorus:]
So darlin'
Tell me what to do to make things right
Darlin'
Tell me what to do to make things right
Darlin'
Tell me what to do to make things right for love
Tell me what to do to make things right for love (for love)

If you want a reason
When they won't turn away from me
They're trying hard to hide all truth they might say
If you listen to me girl
If you know how I'm feeling inside
Then maybe you wouldn’t shut me out your life, baby

[Chorus]

[Bridge:]
Can't you see?
All I'm asking for
Is a chance to let me love you
Can't you see?
Girl, you know with me
Is where you should be
And if by chance we should find
That it can be for you and I
Then girl I'll try
I'll try
Oh baby

[Chorus]

[Spoken:]
Girl, you should know how I feel by now
There's so many ways to love
So just open your heart
And I'll find the way

[Bridge]

[Chorus]
“That better babe.” Nick said, clearing his throat. “Yeah, but can I ask you a very important question?” “Sure shoot.” “What’s gonna happen if Benji never wakes up?” “He will baby.” “I know, but what happens if he doesn’t.” “Then we’ll move him in with you.” “Why me?” “Because you asked.” “Oh.” “Silly girl.” AJ said, and I heard him yelp as someone, namely Nick, pushed him away, and he landed on the couch arm. “You are so dead Carter.” Nick yelped, and I heard him run away, with AJ chasing him. “Alyssa?” Howie asked, sitting on the bed. I heard another creak, and Brian said, “Want me to rescue your boyfriend?” “Please Rok, I would like him to live.” “Okay, we’ll see you tomorrow.” “Okay, bye.” “Bye.” They hung up, and I walked back inside. Annie walked out of Benji’s room, and said, “You ready?” I nodded, and we called our dad to pick us up. He arrived, and we drove home. Annie bolted to her room, and I sighed. I went into my room, passing Annie’s, which had music blasting. I sighed, and picked up my guitar, playing a familiar tune:

I was broken and jaded
Always underestimated
No one ever cared about
What I did or said
No one ever came to rescue me
When I was falling

(Chorus)
I was falling
Falling through the stars
Never stopping
I was spinning
Spinning through the sky
Never ceasing
I was running
Running through the rain
Never slowing
I was falling…falling…falling

No one ever saw
What all the pain did to me
All the masks protected me
If only for a little while
But now I look back
Onto those darkened days
And realize how I was falling
Falling straight into your arms

(Chorus) x2

I was falling
Falling from the heavens
Never stopping
Until I found you

I looked up when I heard someone sniff. Annie stood in my doorway, eyes watering profusely. I smiled, and put my guitar down. Opening my arms for her, I muttered, “Come on sis.” She smiled, and sat next to me on my bed. “Thanks.” She muttered, starting to fall asleep. I smiled, and said to a sleeping Annie, “No prob sis.” Her light snoring was all I heard for a couple minutes before I untangled from her arms, and walked down stairs after changing into my pajamas. Will smiled at me from the couch, and I plopped down next to him. “Hey Will, what’s up.” “Besides the ceiling, nothing.” He said, chuckling slightly. I laughed, and said, “Ha ha, you gonna go to bed soon.” “At six, no. Why? Annie already asleep?” “Ya, she’s worn out, Benji being in the hospital has the poor girl tired out, She doesn’t sleep, and when she does, she has nightmares.” Will nodded, and I relaxed against the couch. Then I heard Annie say, “Why’d you leave?” “Arm was numb.” I answered, showing her my still red arm. She smiled, and looked down at our matching pajamas. Will laughed, and said, “You two crack me up.” We looked at each other, and smiled. Will shook his head, and left the room. Annie slumped onto the couch, and said, “The guys coming out for our birthday?” “Yeah, Nick said something about a fancy dinner. Although you know that will not happen, we’ll probably end up on the couch in sweats watching TV.” Annie laughed, and said, “Yeah Joel, Paul, and Billy are coming too.” I nodded, and changed the TV channel to MTV. “And we just wanna send our prayers to Benji Madden, who is in a coma right now.” I heard Annie sniff, and changed the channel. “Better.” “Yeah.” She nodded, and looked up at me. I smiled, and said, “Ya know what, let’s get dressed, and head out.” Annie nodded we went to change. Five minutes later I looked down at my outfit. Then Annie walked in dressed in a white t-shirt, jeans, and jacket.I laughed, and grabbed my car keys, ready to go. Annie followed me, ready to hit the town. We each had credit cards our dad had given us, so we were set.Annie hopped into the passenger seat, and said, “Let’s hit the road.” We pulled out of the driveway, and onto the main road. Two hours later, we came home with three shopping bags each. We put our stuff away, and lounged around the house all day.
