Summary: We started a story 6 years ago which some of you know as 'An Ideal Marriage?' It told the story of an alternate world which to all intents and purposes was much like ours but with one not insignificant detail... both women and men could conceive children. There we met Nick and Kevin, their friends and family and we watched as they worked to build a life together. But there was so much more that you wanted to know and we wanted to tel. How did Nick and Kevin get together? Were they childhood friends or relative strangers when they met. How did Nick and Corey become such good friends and what do Monique and Annaliese have against Nick? So from these questions and so many more we conceived the idea of 'How It All Began' which is Part 1 of 'An Ideal Marriage?'

Good chapter. Once again, I'm loving this confident (except for hot utensils) Nick. So, Nick helped with the addition to Kevin's house.....interesting. I'm anxious to find out a little more about Kevin now. BTW, here's my guess on who Nick's mystery lover is.....Justin Timberlake. Keep posting and I'll keep reading.

Well, finally we all know. I went from guessing Justin Timberlake to suspecting Kevin in the last chapter. Way to keep us in suspense, CJ. This chapter was cute! I loved Corey's pouting. But most of all, I like the friendship between Nicky and Core. I'm glad we're seeing this aspect of their relationship in this story. Now, Nick said he can be himself with Kevin. I'm hoping to see how this relationship develops.

I really enjoyed reading this chapter. Great job on describing the fashion show. I can really see JC as a fashion designer. But most of all, I really love seeing the plans of Annalise get foiled.

I was just thinking to myself that HIAB hadn't been updated in a while....I need to e-mail CJ and J when I got the notice in my inbox about an update. Now, you know me....seeing that Nick has an headache, my mind would usually wander toward other scenarios. But, I'm not going to do that this time.....I'm just gonna accept it at face value. I have some empathy for Nick in this because this is usually how my migraines happen....they build from an headache. I'm usually popping Advils all day and praying that it doesn't become a migraine. I am looking forward to see if Kevin is comfortable enough in his relationship with Nick that he will come over to Nick's apartment.

Great chapter, guys. I loved reading a little more of the Kevin/Nick backstory. I had assumed the two had known each other for some time, but to find out Kevin's parents are Nick's godparents was a nice tidbit. I'm looking forward to ending of this story and the beginning of the next story. I'm also anxious to read a little more of the backstory. Again, good job.

It's been a long time since a summary and title has prompted me to read a story! I love the way you have set up the scenes with your description of the setting: it was a starry night, leaving such an "alive" city as Vegas....I love it. Now, was that a little foreshadowing with Brian having a sore neck and then finding the bus driver with a broken neck? And did you hear me yelling at Brian not to leave the bus? Everyone knows you don't leave the bus!

Oh.....I wish, I wish they did have this conversation. Again, another sign of Nick's maturity of being able to bring this up to Brian. But what really got me in this installment is the amount of hurt Brian felt.
“Because they knew they could bully you into it. If you had come to me or even Kevin…”
“I was afraid you’d try to talk me out of it. I needed to do it. I felt like it was all I had to cling onto.”
“I was there to cling on to. We all would have been there if you had let us.”
I got a little teary there! Once again, Mare, you have done a fantastic job of examining the motivations of some of our Boys actions; as well as, forcing us readers to re-evaluate some of our own conclusions of their actions.
I'm sitting here at home with a case of strep throat with a smile on my face because of conversation in a story. :-) I'm looking forward to next chapter. BTW, I think Nick will tell Kevin about the conversation.

One of the things that I find so fascinating when reading Kevin/Nick focus stories is how polar opposite the two seem to be. Yet, when you look a little deeper, you see a lot of similarities. You always do a fantastic job of illustrating Kevin and Nick's similarites, in a subtle way. Bravo!
It's weird....when the rumor of Kevin leaving the group began to surface along with the "buzz" on the "HOC," I jokingly told a friend that Kevin was quitting BSB so he wouldn't be associated with the show. Afterall, he's lived through it once....why would he want to watch the train wreck. Kevin's comment in the chapter about watching some parts with one eye is how I would visualize him doing it.....actually, it's how I did it during some parts of that show.
Once again Mare, you have done a wonderful job of bringing these "characters" into the tangible people we believe we know.

Mare, this was a great chapter and I'm glad you included this controversial subject in the story. Long before the abuse allegation came out, I've wondered about Lou Pearlman and his relationship with his "boys." Like my grammy use to say, "the man just looks wrong." And wasn't it strange that with the formation of groups after Backstreet, the youngest was always blond with blue eyes. Sounds like someone was obsessing about someone....mmmm. I hope that Nick was not sexually abused; but, I don't think we will ever know unless some other Boy will admit that he was. It's sad that I can see Nick telling Kevin before telling his parents. I find it ironic that Jane Carter said that she tried to "warn" other parents about Lou; yet, not only was Nick allowed to remain around him, but wasn't Aaron also signed with Lou Pearlman? Great job there, Mom! I really like the conversation in the story between Kevin and Nick, but I actually see it happening earlier in their relationship.
But, I've rambled long enough. Again, great job Mare. I'm loving this story.
