During their unexpected hiatus, Kevin decides to reconnect with the boys on a camping trip. Healing old wounds, sharing old stories and just spending time as brothers.
Oops....in that long and rambling review I submitted, I neglected to mention that I'm not surprised that Kevin and Howie would look out for Nick. But I also wouldn't be surprised if AJ noticed the "looks" that Lou gave Nick. The question is: would this be a topic of conversation when AJ and Brian arrive?
Author's Response: Hrmm this is going to be the real challenge for me in this story because once AJ and Brian enter i'm not sure what's going to happen. I don't see this conversation coming up again though. Maybe, we'll see.
Wow....very thought provoking. This chapter was a really good character study of Nick. Mare, you really do a great job of explaining the "flaws" of your characters.

Whether those thoughts are funny or serious, they always produce a reaction from me. It was also touching that Kevin only calls Nick "little man." I think that's a testament to their relationship. Another great chapter.

I'm loving Nick and Kevin's time together. Now, I'm like Kevin and a little worried about AJ and Brian's arrival. Another good chapter, Mare.

On my way to see the Boys on the Never Gone tour, I told my friend I thought AJ wanted to be Brian. I was wrong. I think AJ wants what Brian has....the wife, the baby, the career and making it all work. Brian and AJ seem like such an odd couple! Brian, though at times could be goofy, is usually calm and grounded. AJ, on the other hand, appears to be larger than life. (No pun intended.) But what really had me thinking after reading this chapter was AJ's silent comment of "I took your Frick." I have to disagree with AJ on this one. I don't think he took Brian away from Nick; I think Brian distanced himself from Nick.
Well, enough of my rambling. Again, good chapter Mare. Schools been back in session here for two weeks and we have tomorrow off....yeah!

Come on Brian....you're not perfect! I think this conversation between Brian and Nick has been a long time coming. And really....this HOC thing with the blurred Brian....really bad form Bri. Nick really should get everything off his chest. Great update. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

A good ending to another good story. I'm glad that Nick didn't have a really big epiphany; but, with the change of scenery realized some basic truths about his life and his "brothers'" roles in his life. Once again, good job Mare.

Author's Response: It very well could. It was posted on Tango's Backstreet Obsession, AGES ago, back when Slash was still considered very taboo. I posted under a different name then.
Life only offers so many chances. At the age of thirty-five, Nick Carter realizes that he may be on his last. 
Not every story has a happy ending. I love this line. It would have been so easy for you to have Nick "recover." After all, this is fiction. I'm so glad you didn't.
The realism and emotions in this story always kept my attention. At times, it was a difficult read and brought tears to my eyes and at times some joy and laughter.
Thank you for such a wonderful story.

It's the winter of 1995 and as Nick and the boys are on tour, he finds himself growing anxious for unexplained reasons. As he slowly discovers the truth behind his fears, he is thrown into a world he had forced himself to forget.
I love you! Welcome back to writing! I'm a sucker from Nick's point of view because it's always interesting to see "hear" the thoughts in his head. I can identify with Nick. It's funny the things you think you hear or hear when you're alone. Now, the twisting of the doorknob coming from a locked room.....a little scary. As usual, Mare, you have done a great job of building suspense. I will anxiously be awaiting more.

With each dream, a little more is revealed making this mystery so very tantalizing for me. For Nick....not so much. I loved the dream sequence where Nick is, figuratively, two people... Andrew and Nick. Mare, I am always impressed with your characterizations; they always pull the reader into the story. I am anxiously awaiting the next installment.
