7:52 AM

Around 8 AM, AJ felt someone poking him in the arm. He lazily opened his eyes and saw Jordan standing next to him.

"'Morning, J," AJ said as he yawned.

"G'morning, Daddy."

He quickly sat up and felt his son's forehead only to find it much cooler than the night before. "What's wrong? Does your ear still hurt? Are you okay?" he asked worriedly.

"I'm okay, Daddy. Can you make me some cereal? Please?"

AJ chuckled and ruffled Jordan's hair. "Sure thing, little man." He got up and stretched, then went into the kitchen to get Jordan's breakfast and start a pot of coffee.

He opened their cereal cabinet and asked Jordan, "Do you want Lucky Charms or Cocoa Puffs?"

"Cocoa Puffs!"

"Alright."

He made the bowl of cereal and fixed the coffee pot to start brewing. AJ went back into the living room and gave Jordan his breakfast. He returned to the kitchen to make himself a bagel with cream cheese. As he finished, the phone rang and he answered it.

"Hello?"

"Hi, sweetheart."

"Hey, Mom, is something wrong?" he questioned.

"Oh no, I was just calling to see how you were doing. Kim told me that you were coming home last night."

"I'm fine."

"How was Mexico?"

"It was great. Nice weather and the shows were amazing. It's too bad that Kim and Jordan couldn't come out."

"Oh, that's right. How is he doing?" she asked.

"We had a bit of a scare last night, but, we took care of it."

"What happened?"

"J spiked an 103-degree fever and his ear was really hurting him."

"Oh, boy," Denise said worriedly.

"But we gave him some medicine and ear drops and got him to sleep. He's eating right now, so, he must be feeling a little bit better," AJ explained.

"Well that's good. Give him a hug and a kiss for me."

"I will."

"So what are your plans for today?"

"I think I'm just gonna chill at home with Jordan, you know how clingy he gets when he's sick," he reasoned.

"Right. Is Kim up yet?"

"No, why?" he wondered.

"I just need to ask her something."

"Okay, I'll have her call you when she gets up."

"Alright, son. I've gotta go run some errands and go to the store," she said.

"Gotcha. Love you, Mom."

"I love you, Alex, bye."

"Bye."

AJ hung up the phone, got his coffee, and went into the living room to eat his breakfast with Jordan.

"Hey, J?"

"Yes, Daddy?"

AJ set his food down and picked Jordan up. "These," he hugged and kissed him, "are from Grammy." Jordan giggled. "Oof, you're getting heavy." He set him down and started to eat.

Both of them were watching cartoons when Kim and Bernie came downstairs.

"G'morning, boys." She walked over to them and smiled.

"'Morning, babe. Did you sleep good?" He gave her a kiss.

"Yeah, thanks. How was the couch? Did it mess your back up again?" she asked.

AJ shook his head. "Surprisingly, no. Maybe Jordan here is good luck." He ruffled his hair again.

Kim turned to Jordan. "And how are you doing this morning, J?" she asked as she felt his forehead.

"I'm okay, Mommy." he smiled a little.

"Good. He's still got a fever, but, it's nowhere near as bad as last night."

"Yeah, we can check it when he's done eating," AJ said.

Kim went to the kitchen, got herself some coffee and a bagel, and let Bernie outside to do his business. She went back to the living room and sat next to AJ.

"Are you gonna stay home with Jordan today?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Oh, I just wanted to go out and have lunch with Rachel. We haven't gotten together in months, her job's been keeping her busy." Kim said.

"I can definitely understand that. What time?"

"Around 12:30."

"No problem. I think we need to spend some quality time together, anyway."

"Great."

AJ turned to Jordan and asked, "Are you done, buddy?" He nodded. AJ took the dishes to the kitchen, rinsed them out, and put them in the sink. Then he went upstairs to the bedroom and got the thermometer and medicine and came back to the living room.

"J? Time to check your temperature and give you some more medicine, okay?"

"Uh-uh," he whimpered.

"C'mon, Jordan, it'll take five minutes. Please?"

"Uh-uh!" He buried his face into Kim's shoulder.

"C'mon, J, do it for Mommy. Daddy wouldn't do anything to hurt you, right?" she asked gently.

"Yes..."

"Well, you're sick and Daddy needs to do these things to make you feel better, okay?"

"Okay." he said quietly.

"Good. Now, sit up and let Daddy do what he needs to do."

Jordan complied and AJ took his temperature. The thermometer read 101.3 degrees.

"It's 101.3, Kim."

"Well, that's better than 103."

AJ gave Jordan his antibiotics, Motrin, and ear drops. Jordan went upstairs to go play in his room and AJ and Kim went into the kitchen.

AJ went to the sink and started loading the dishes into the dishwasher. "My mom called. She needs to ask you something, so, call her cell phone. She's out running errands and stuff."

"Oh, okay. I will a little later."

AJ came up behind Kim and put his arms around her waist and started kissing her neck. "Sorry I yelled at Jordan last night. I was just tired, I guess."

"It's okay, baby, you didn't mean anything by it."

"And frustrated that he ruined our 'moment'..." he finished. "But I guess when you have a sick kid, you gotta take care of it." AJ rolled his eyes jokingly.

Kim chuckled. "You know...we can still have our 'moment' right now." She turned to face him and kissed his lips.

"You know what? You're right." He took Kim's hand as he led her upstairs to the bedroom.
